Resignation letter

Your resignation in writing, free: with the notice you must give, your last day calculated from the day your employer receives the letter, and a request for your final pay. The PDF is created on your device, ready to sign.

This site does not give legal advice. You prepare your letter from your own answers: it sets out facts and calculated amounts, with no opinion on your situation.

Your employment

Leave it empty if you are still employed with no end date.

Leave it empty if your contract says nothing: the law then requires 1 week after 13 weeks of employment.

You

As on your payslip or contract.

Your employer

For example the HR manager.

Needed to send a copy by email.

Date and sending

Today by default.

How you will send it

Email needs your employer’s email address.

Your last day and options

Only if already known (copy signed by your employer, An Post tracking): your last day is recalculated.

The letter asks; it does not impose it.

Prepared in your browser: nothing you type is sent.

Keep your answers

They stay in this browser, never on our servers. Do not tick this on a shared device. Answers of the calculators kept here are reused automatically.
Continue on another device: a file protected by a code

It encrypts the file. It is not stored anywhere: write it down.

Preview of your letter

Fill in the questionnaire: the preview shows here, with your dates and amounts.

Resigning in Ireland

After 13 weeks of continuous employment, you must give at least 1 week’s notice, or more if your contract says so (Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment Act 1973, s. 6). The law does not require writing, but your contract may, and a dated letter is the proof of when your notice started.

Your notice runs from the day after your employer receives the letter: the same day if you hand it over, about 5 days after posting by Registered Post (to be safe). Your employer can agree to a shorter notice. The notice calculator shows the same dates.
