Resignation letter

Resigning in writing

After one month of service, an employee must give at least 1 week's notice (Employment Rights Act 1996, section 86(2)); your contract can ask for more. Your notice starts when your employer receives your letter: the same day by hand or by email, and an estimated 5 days later by post, moved to the next working day.

Check your contract: it may say when notice starts to run, or that notice must be given in writing.
